City Limits (1985) – Neon Wasteland Biker Wars

Synopsis:

In a plague-ravaged future, the adult population has been wiped out, leaving the world in the hands of gangs.

Lee, a young biker raised outside the cities, ventures into the ruins to join “The Clippers,” a motorcycle gang that believes in protecting what’s left of civilization. But their turf is under threat from a powerful corporation with shady motives. Soon, Lee finds himself caught between survival, loyalty, and the fight for a freer future — all against a backdrop of neon-lit rubble, leather jackets, and chain-smoking rebels.

Fun Facts & Trivia:

  • Stacked Cast: The movie boasts some surprisingly big names for its budget: James Earl Jones (in a beret, wielding a crossbow), Kim Cattrall (Sex and the City), Rae Dawn Chong (Commando), and Dean Devlin (future producer of Independence Day).
  • Director’s Sci-Fi Roots: Directed by Aaron Lipstadt, who previously made Android (1982), another cult sci-fi gem.
  • MST3K Fame: Featured in Mystery Science Theater 3000 Season 4, Episode 403 — a perfect fit for the show’s brand of affectionate roasting.
  • 80s Aesthetic Overload: Expect shoulder pads in a post-apocalypse, motorbikes with welded-on “armor,” and inexplicable bits of “future tech” cobbled together from everyday junk.
  • Cult Classic Energy: While often criticized for its pacing and campy tone, City Limits has become a time-capsule of 80s low-budget dystopia and is beloved by fans of “so-bad-it’s-good” cinema.

  1. 48 minutes in. I’m enjoying this movie so far; despite the bad reviews. Our main protagonist, a member of the Clippers, seeks revenge against the Sonia corporation. Will the Clippers be victorious and overthrowing the evil mega corporation? Onto the final few scenes.

  2. Fun movie. A bit of a dry patch in the middle as character and relationship development ensure; but overall a fun action packed movie. Not 100% I would watch this again though.
